      Installation

      1. What operating systems does Keyman Desktop support?

        Keyman Desktop runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003 and Windows Vista. For the best experience, we recommend Windows XP or Windows Vista. If running on an older version of Windows, we recommend installing all available updates.

      2. What are Keyman's hardware requirements?

        Keyman does not have a large resource requirement itself. The applications that you use Keyman with, such as Microsoft Office, will have greater hardware requirements. Keyman Desktop runs well on older systems with as little as 64MB of RAM, 1GB free disk space, and 500Mhz processor.
      3. Does Keyman include adware or spyware?

        No. We never have and never will include adware or spyware components. Keyman does contact the Tavultesoft website periodically to check for updates. In this process, the only information communicated is the current version of Keyman. You can switch this option off in Keyman Configuration.
      4. Do you have a Linux or Mac OS product?

        No, we do not have any Linux or Mac OS products. However, we worked with SIL on the development of a Linux-based keyboarding solution called Keyboard Mapping for Linux. SIL have a related product for Mac OS 9 and earlier versions - SILKey.

      Features

      1. Does Keyman include an on-screen keyboard?

        Yes. However, not all the community-contributed keyboards available on our website currently include on-screen keyboard support.

      Compatibility

      1. Does Keyman support Unicode?

        Yes, Keyman fully supports Unicode.
      2. Does Keyman work with all software?

        Keyman works well with nearly all modern applications. Some older applications do not allow display of non-European languages, or do not support Unicode. We have written add-ins for some applications which allow Keyman to work around the limitations.

        If you have trouble getting Keyman to work with an application, let us know! We will work with the author of that application to resolve the issue.

      3. I heard that Windows 98 doesn't support Unicode... How does Keyman do Unicode in Windows 98?

        Windows 95, 98 and Me only support the display of Unicode. Normally it is not possible to type Unicode characters on these operating systems. However, with Keyman, we developed some add-ins for popular applications such as Microsoft Word, that bypass the limitations of Windows 95, 98 and Me, and allow Unicode input.

      Licencing

      1. How long does my licence last?

        Licences for Professional or Light Editions of Keyman Desktop 7.0 do not expire, and can be used forever. Keyman Desktop Corporate Edition also has a perpetual licence but usually includes a support component that must be renewed every year.
      2. Do I get free upgrades with my licence?

        Keyman Desktop Light and Professional licences include free minor version upgrades (from 7.0 to 7.1 for example), and bug patches. Major version upgrades must be purchased separately. Keyman Desktop Corporate Edition includes all minor, major and patch upgrades while in the Support contact period.
      3. Where can I find my licence details?

        When you purchase a licence to Keyman Desktop, you receive all the details in your email. You can also view your licence details online in Your Account. You must login with the same email address as you purchased your licence with. If your email address has changed, contact Tavultesoft Support for assistance.
      4. Can I transfer my licence to a new computer?

        Yes, but you must uninstall Keyman from your original computer first.
      5. How many computers can I install a licence on?

        A 'seat count' is included in the licence details which specifies the number of computers you can install on.
      6. Where is the Free Home Edition?

        The Free Home Edition has been discontinued with the release of Keyman Desktop 7.0. Keyman Desktop Light 7.0 replaces the Free Home Edition.
      7. I am a registered Keyman 6.2 user. Can I download Keyman 6.2 now?

        If you are a registered user of Keyman 6.2, you can download the most recent version 6.2 installer from www.tavultesoft.com/keyman/downloads/. You will need to login with the same email address that you originally registered with. If your email address has changed, contact Tavultesoft Support to arrange for your licence to be transferred to your new email address.

      Support

      1. What support do I get?

        All editions of Keyman Desktop 7.0 include web and email support. See our Support Pages for more details. We do not put a time limit on support for any of the Keyman Desktop products.

      2. Why don't you offer support for the Home Use Edition?

        The Home Use Edition of Keyman 6.2 was provided as a free product. This meant that we were unable to provide support for it. You will find that we often answer questions on the Forums - but we can provide no guarantee that we can always do so.

      3. I think I found a bug! How can I tell you about it?

        You can create a support case in the 'Defect' category. We do not charge for resolving defects in Keyman.
