      Installation

      1. What operating systems does Keyman Developer support?

        Keyman Developer runs on Windows 98, Me, NT4, 2000, XP, Server 2003. For the best experience, we recommend Windows XP. If running on an older version of Windows, we recommend installing all available updates.

      2. What are Keyman Developer's hardware requirements?

        Keyman Developer requires 64MB RAM, 100MB free disk space, and we recommend a 500Mhz or faster processor.
      3. Does Keyman Developer include adware or spyware?

        No. We never have and never will include adware or spyware components. Keyman Developer does contact the Tavultesoft website periodically to check for updates. In this process, the only information communicated is the current version of Keyman Developer. You can switch this option off in Tools/Options.
      4. Do you have a Linux or Mac OS product?

        No, we do not have any Linux or Mac OS products. However, we worked with SIL on the development of a Linux-based keyboarding solution called Keyboard Mapping for Linux. SIL have a related product for Mac OS 9 and earlier versions - SILKey.

      Compatibility

      1. Does Keyman Developer support Unicode?

        Yes, Keyman Developer supports Unicode, both in its user interface, and in the files it generates. Keyman Developer can also generate keyboards to target legacy code page systems.

      Licencing

      1. How long does my licence last?

        Your licence for Keyman Developer does not expire, and can be used forever.
      2. Do I get free upgrades with my licence?

        Keyman Developer licences include free minor version upgrades (from 6.2 to 6.3 for example), and bug patches. Major version upgrades must be purchased separately.
      3. Where can I find my licence details?

        When you purchase a licence to Keyman Developer, you receive all the details in an email. You can also view your licence details online in Your Account at Tavultesoft.
      4. Can I transfer my licence to a new computer?

        Yes, but you must uninstall Keyman Developer from the original computer first. If you have activated Keyman Developer on the original computer, you will need to contact Tavultesoft to reset your activation record.
      5. How many computers can I install a licence on?

        A 'seat count' is included in the licence details which specifies the number of computers you can install on.

      Support

      1. What support do I get?

        The Professional Edition of Keyman Developer 7.0 includes 1 year of unlimited web-based support through Your Account, and email support, from the date that your licence is issued.
      2. Can I get support after my support period expires?

        Of course! You can pay for support tickets through the Online Support portal. Once you have purchased a support ticket, it will not expire and you can use it at any time. You can use a support ticket for a single case only. If we do not resolve the issue to your satisfaction, we may grant you a free support ticket.
      3. I think I found a bug! How can I tell you about it without buying a support ticket?

        You can create a support case in the 'Defect' category. We do not charge for resolving defects in Keyman. If the issue is not a defect, we reserve the right to charge the standard support ticket fee, if we think it appropriate.
      4. Where can I log a support request?

        You can create support requests in the following places:

        • Tavultesoft Forums - Community support - Tavultesoft support staff also respond to questions here
        • Tavultesoft Online Support - If you have a current support contract or you purchased Keyman Developer less than 1 year ago, you can create support cases for Tavultesoft to respond to directly here.
        • Email to support@tavultesoft.com - If you have a current support contract or you purchased Keyman Developer less than 1 year ago, you can also email Tavultesoft support.

      Branding Pack

      1. What do I get with the Branding Pack?

        The Branding Pack includes:

        • Development tools to create a customised product that includes the Keyman Engine
        • Copy protection tools to protect your keyboards
        • License management tools for your customer licence - this is called the Branding Pack Customer Relationship Manager (CRM)
        • 25 pre-purchased shareware seats of the Keyman Engine
      2. What is the difference between Keyman Desktop and Keyman Engine?

        Keyman Desktop contains Keyman Engine, as well as additional user interface and help components. When you create a product with the Branding Pack, you will be redistributing Keyman Engine, not Keyman Desktop.

      3. What are pre-purchased Keyman Engine licenses?

        Each copy of the Keyman Engine distributed requires a licence. When you purchase the Branding Pack, you get 25 pre-purchased licenses with it. A pre-purchased license for the Branding Pack can be allocated to your customer at any time through the Branding Pack CRM. Your customer does not need to enter into any financial transaction with Tavultesoft.

      4. What are the distribution options for products created with the Branding Pack?

        Products based on Keyman Engine can be distributed in three different ways:

        Shareware

        • Shareware is "try before you buy" for a defined period of time.
        • If the user wishes to continue to use the product beyond the trial period then they must have a valid license.
        • You can either provide the license from a pool of Keyman Engine licenses pre-purchased from Tavultesoft or your customer can purchase a license through the Tavultesoft Online Store.
        • Keyman Engine includes copy protection and license management and your customers licenses are automatically managed through the Tavultesoft Activation Server.
        • You can include multiple keyboards in each product you create.

        Freeware

        • You purchase a license to distribute one or more keyboards globally.
        • Your product will not require activation and will work only with the keyboards that are licensed for it.
        • The cost of a Freeware distribution license for a keyboard usually includes an up-front and a support component. Pricing is supplied on application.
        • All Freeware products must be uploaded to the Tavultesoft website for users to download.

        Global

        • Technically similar to the Freeware license model
        • You purchase a licence to distribute and sell a product based on the Keyman Engine. Commercial terms of the licence must be negotiated with Tavultesoft.
      5. How can I list my Shareware Product in the Tavultesoft Online Store

        Contact Tavultesoft Sales (sales@tavultesoft.com) and we will organise listing your product in the Online Store.

      KeymanWeb Pack

      1. What do I get with the KeymanWeb Pack?

        The KeymanWeb Pack includes tools to develop and test KeymanWeb keyboards. It does not include a licence to use KeymanWeb on a website or to distribute KeymanWeb.
