Frequently Asked Questions
General
Is KeymanWeb the best product on the market?
KeymanWeb's unique contextual input mechanism provides the flexibility to create input methods that work the way users expect – other solutions require users to learn non-intuitive input sequences, or worse, point and click with a mouse. The KeymanWeb engine has been engineered to be very lightweight – keeping bandwidth costs down, and KeymanWeb supports more browsers than other products.
How does KeymanWeb help me get ROI?
KeymanWeb greatly enhances access to the rapidly growing Asian and African markets – be there before the competition. It also greatly simplifies the internationalization of your website by completely solving the language input requirements, independently of the end user's operating system.
If I need a new language, how do I get it?
Tavultesoft will respond to requests for additional languages – we have access to a large number of keyboard layouts that can be easily modified to meet your needs; Keyman Developer KeymanWeb Pack also includes all the tools you need to create keyboard layouts yourself.
Will KeymanWeb work on all web sites?
KeymanWeb will work on any Unicode-based web site that follows the HTML/XHTML standards.

Tavultesoft
Why are you called "Tavultesoft"?
Tavulte is the name of a small village in Papua New Guinea where company director Marc Durdin spent some time in the early 1990's. Our company name can be pronounced Ta/vul/te/soft.
How do Tavultesoft linguistic connections benefit me?
Tavultesoft has connections with linguists and keyboard developers around the world – we already have connections in most languages that you would want to work with. This means that to create a new keyboard or to modify an existing one, you have access to resources worldwide, taking pressure off your internal resource requirements.

Implementation
What are the steps to implement KeymanWeb?
Start a subscription, or with the Professional Edition:
- Purchase a licence for your domain.
- At a minimum, insert the <SCRIPT> includes into your HTML files to start using KeymanWeb.
- Read the Developer's Implementation Guide to understand all the options available.
Will I need additional software or technical resources?
No – KeymanWeb is straightforward to implement and we envision most sites reaching a final implementation within a day or two. We provide additional technical expertise for large sites requiring more complex interactions.
Which languages can't I do?
KeymanWeb supports any language. Chinese and Japanese (and to a lesser extent, Korean) may require an AJAX layer (depending on input method used) as the input method is in general too large to download all at once.
What impact will KeymanWeb have on my web site?
You can decide exactly how the user interface for KeymanWeb integrates into your site, so the impact is entirely up to you. The bandwidth requirements for the KeymanWeb engine are minimal.
Technical
Does KeymanWeb use ActiveX?
No. KeymanWeb runs entirely in JavaScript.
What platforms is KeymanWeb tested on?
KeymanWeb has been tested and all features work completely on Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0, Firefox 1.5.0.1, 2.0, 3.0, Opera 8.6, 9.0, Safari 2.0 and later, and Google Chrome. Backward compatibility functionality means that KeymanWeb functionality will degrade cleanly for older platforms.
What about fonts?
Internet Explorer, Safari and Chrome support font embedding, and KeymanWeb keyboards can integrate fonts for these platforms. Firefox 3.1 will support font embedding. Opera has a technology preview demonstrating font embedding. For other platforms, help and installers are provided with the keyboards for straightforward font installation. Many platforms already include basic fonts for most languages.
Can I modify existing keyboard layouts?
Yes. Once you have a licence agreement with us, you have access to the source files for the keyboard layouts, and can modify them to meet your needs. You can also create your own layouts from scratch with the Keyman Developer KeymanWeb Pack product.
