| Peter Wulfing | Was this bug ever worked out? I'm a tech working on a system which has this exact problem. When you move the volume dial, it sends spurious characters (b's and c's) to the text.

| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | We've responded to your support case. It took some time to review the keyboard and font. Can you send us a screenshot of how the font is appearing wrongly in Word and the test window in Keyman Desktop? | ||||

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | I have sent my source code and a mail regarding my issue on 5th April to your support ID but have not received any reply.
It works fine in the 'test keyboard' option of keyman developer but in the keyman desktop editor and MS word most of the characters are not getting printed.

| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | If you create a custom font and install it in Windows, it will appear in the font list in Character Map in the same way as any other font.
Note: if you are running Windows 7 or Windows 8, you may want to disable the option "Hide fonts based on language settings" in the Font settings control panel.

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | If I create a new custom font will it show up in keyman when I right click on the character map and choose fonts? Do I need to do anything else to see my font in the font list? | ||||
| New Glyphs with no unicode › RE: New Glyphs with no unicode 2013-03-26 21:58:17.700 | |||||
| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | So I've just looked it up, and this is a very limited tool intended really only for use on your own computer. It hacks in bitmap character shapes (not scaleable) to the display renderer; Keyman Developer won't support this in Character Map because the characters are not enumerable from the font resource itself.
In order to distribute a solution with PUA characters, you'll need a font tool such as FontLab to create your own font.

| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | OK, I'm not sure what the Private Character Editor is? A font describes the shapes of the characters - both Unicode-defined characters and Private Use characters. If you are adding characters to the Private Use Area, that necessarily requires a custom font to go with it in order for the shape of the characters to be viewable. | ||||

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | I have not created a font. i have just created 6 new characters in private character editor(from Microsoft) and linked it to all fonts before saving. | ||||
| New Glyphs with no unicode › RE: New Glyphs with no unicode 2013-03-26 21:23:18.460 | |||||
| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | Keyman Developer will read the private use characters from your font and display them in the Character Map - you don't need to upload or import it specially into Keyman Developer. The only thing you need to do is select your font in the Character Map and enter ">" into the filter box, which tells the Character Map to use show all the characters in the selected font, rather than all the characters in the Unicode Standard. | ||||

| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff |
Once you have installed your keyboard, you can use the Font Helper (http://help.keymandesktop.com/docs/basic_fonthelper.php) to list the fonts which will support the characters in your keyboard.
Can you give me an example of the rules from the keyboard so I can examine that further here? Alternatively, you can email the whole keyboard source file to support@tavultesoft.com and reference this discussion. Also, which version of Word are you using? Sending us a diagnostic report may also help us solve this (http://www.tavultesoft.com/kb?id=40)

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | I changed the font and tried, the characters are still not getting displayed. Is there a universal font wherein all the characters get displayed? one example,
Alt K_7 is mapped to U+23D7 which does not show when I test my keyboard. I tried Courier new unicode, Arial, Arial unicode

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | I have mapped alt 1 to | and ctrl 1 to \. When I click alt 1 in word I get the 'save as'screen. ctrl 1 does not do anything. similarly alt 2 takes me to the undo menu and ctrl 2 does nothing.

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | I do understand how to access the private use characters. My question is how will the new characters appear in the private use area. I have to upload it somewhere right? How does keyman know my new characters. | ||||

| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | The steps to see the private use area characters are as described by Jeremy; I quote:
You can always reference the private use area characters in your keyboard without changing font first; if you select the font later the characters will then appear.
| keyman developer issues › RE: keyman developer issues 2013-03-26 08:13:06.413 | |||||
| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | 1. This is usually because the incorrect font is selected. If you are testing within Keyman Developer, you can change the font with the Character Font option in the View menu.
2. Can you show an example of the rule which is not matching in Word?

| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | I have a couple of issues with Keyman developer and need some help,
1. Some of the characters are not getting displayed when I test my keyboard. A box is displayed in place of the actual character. The source compiled successfully. 2. In word doc. when I test my keyboard(via desktop) Alt and ctrl do not work for some of the keys and in some cases it brings up a menu.
| New Glyphs with no unicode › RE: New Glyphs with no unicode 2013-03-25 19:49:51.150 | |||||
| Middlepath Technology Solutions Pvt Ltd | Thanks. I think I was not clear, my question is where do I upload the new characters in keyman. When I go to the character map - private use area in keyman developer currently there are no characters. How do I bring the new characters into the keyman character map?. I am assuming that unless I bring the characters into the map I will not be able to use the code. | ||||
| New Glyphs with no unicode › RE: New Glyphs with no unicode 2013-03-25 16:15:42.513 | |||||
| Marc Durdin Tavultesoft Staff | You can refer to private use characters by Unicode character reference in the keyboard source, for example:
+ [K_A] > U+E080 | ||||
USA
