As noted via personal email (22 Oct), we are working toward compliance for Keyman Desktop in all 64-bit environments. Thank you for advising us of the Photoshop issue.

As a work around for your current problem, try typing text in Word (or similar) and inserting it into Photoshop.

Keyman Desktop 7 runs in Windows 7 64-bit, in all 32-bit applications. The vast majority of applications for Windows 7 (64-bit) are 32-bit.
In addition, our next release of Keyman Desktop will be fully compliant with all 64-bit applications.

I've just come to the forum in search for an answer to a similar question. I am likewise using Windows 7 Ultimate "N" 64bit and found that Keyman was not working with the native applications (WordPad, NotePad) as well as MS Office 2010 Beta. But it did work in Google Chrome which I assume now was 32bit.

I'm looking forward to the update and will be happy to test.

I'd like to chime in and say I'm surprised Keyman Desktop Light 7.1 (current version) under Windows 7 64-bit does not work in (A) Notepad, (B) in Windows' file renaming.

P.S. Perhaps even more disturbingly, the keyboard activation hotkey only functions when working within an application where Keyman works. In other words, if the Firefox window is active, you can toggle your keyboard back and forth. But if you are on the Windows 7 desktop, it does nothing! Something about the applications/environments where Keyman doesn't work (Windows desktop, Notepad) kills the functionality of the whole app, even to pay attention to hotkey.

TW: This behaviour is logical when you look into the underlying Windows x64 support. Both Notepad and Explorer are 64-bit applications in Windows 7 x64. Keyman Desktop 7.1 (and the core engine, which we call Keyman Engine) is a 32-bit application and cannot hook into any 64-bit applications, so logically then no Keyman input or keyboard activation hotkeys can occur.

There are 32-bit versions of most Windows applets, including Notepad, in C:\Windows\SysWow64, with which Keyman Engine 7.1 works fine. Yes, that folder name is rather unintuitive -- it contains all the 32-bit applications, and the 64-bit versions are in System32!

The version 8.0 beta downloadable at http://www.tavultesoft.com/beta/ fully supports 64-bit applications -- it includes a 64-bit version of Keyman Engine that integrates transparently with the 32-bit version. We are working hard on the full version 8.0 release.
